The City of La Rochelle
La Rochelle is known as La Ville Blanche or “the white city” because of the luminous limestone façades of its buildings that date from the 14th to the 15th centuries. It has carefully preserved the architecture of its past and its main tourist attraction is the Vieux Port or Old Harbour found at the heart of the city.

La Rochelle has a rich seafaring past and its cobblestone streets are made in part by the ballast of ships that were brought across the Atlantic. It also has Europe’s largest marina for pleasure boats, mostly yachts, in Les Minimes. The city also offers lots of activities for children, making it a good choice for families enjoying a holiday in France.
